Grey’s Anatomy says goodbye to its second spin-off, Seattle Firefighters, after seven seasons, narrowly beating the first spin-off, Private Practice.
Grey’s Anatomy is heading towards its 20th season, but will have to make do without Ellen Pompeo as the lead actress in future. Shortly after announcing its new season start date, the popular hospital series has now announced the departure of its spin-off Seattle Firefighters.

Grey’s Anatomy and Seattle Firefighters (in the original: Station 19) have just announced their delayed start date for season 20 and season 7, which was pushed back considerably after the Hollywood strike. After the additional downer of shortened seasons, Variety also reported that the firefighter spin-off is heading towards its decided end.

Stacy McKee’s spin-off Seattle Firefighters was created in 2018 from Grey’s Anatomy and highlights the goings-on at the 19th station, which includes firefighter and main character Andy Herrera (Jaina Lee Ortiz). Characters like Ben Warren (Jason George) and Carina DeLuca (Stefania Spampinato) defected from the hospital entirely to join the firefighters. Others like Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) kept popping in as guest stars.
For six years, Seattle Firefighters and Grey’s Anatomy aired crossover episodes that built on each other in their shared universe created by series creator Shonda Rhimes. This will come to an end after season 7. This means that the second spin-off of the series lasted a little longer than the first, as Private Practice ran for 6 seasons between 2007 and 2013. Seattle Firefighters, with its current 95 episodes, will probably not end up surpassing its episode count of 111 episodes, as season 7 only has around 10 episodes

Together with Grey’s Anatomy’s 20th season, Seattle Firefighters will start its final 7th season in the USA on March 14, 2024. A German start date on Disney+ * and ProSieben has not yet been set for the return of both series, but is expected to take place in summer or fall 2024.
