According to Polgyon, the brand new 4K edition of Abyss also includes a making-of documentary entitled Deep Dive: A Conversation with James Cameron. In it, the director talks in detail about the elaborate filming of the sci-fi spectacle.

According to Cameron, the entire cast underwent special training while the crew behind the camera had to communicate underwater. Many of the people responsible for lighting or camera support were trained divers. According to Cameron, he spent 10 to 11 hours underwater every day for the filming of Abyss.
