Gunn himself will direct a new Superman film in which Henry Cavill is no longer involved. The cast of Superman: Legacy continues to grow slowly, but Gunn stands behind this decision.

James Gunn criticizes cameo trend in recent superhero films
According to Comic Book Movie, the director has written that the cast in his upcoming DC blockbuster does not consist of numerous cameos, but has important characters supporting his Man of Steel. Via the social media app Threads, Gunn has now commented on this again and described his problem with the cameo trend in superhero films in more detail:
I call it ‘cameo porn’ and it’s one of the worst things about recent superhero movies. If a character is in the movie, story-wise, they have to have a reason to be there.
Gunn doesn’t give any specific Marvel or DC examples for his explanation. But if past coverage of Deadpool 3 is any indication of the upcoming Ryan Reynolds blockbuster, James Gunn would rather give the movie a wide berth.

In Superman: Legacy, Clark Kent is played by David Corenswet, who is known from the Netflix productions The Politician, Hollywood and Look Both Ways, among others. At his side, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan plays the role of Lois Lane. Mad Max: Fury Road star Nicholas Hoult is on board as legendary Superman villain Lex Luthor.
