0Ahead of Deadpool 3 comes a crazy fantasy film with Ryan Reynolds and lots of imaginary friends

2024 Ryan Reynolds isn’t just conquering the big screen as Marvel hero Deadpool. In the fantasy adventure IF, he has to deal with characters that don’t exist … or maybe they do…

It’s actually surprising that Deadpool hasn’t yet had a superhero adventure with an imaginary friend. That would fit in perfectly with the tone of the Ryan Reynolds-led Marvel series. Instead, the cheeky Marvel hero gets to tangle with Wolverine in a big crossover movie next year.

Reynolds is also starring in the fantasy comedy IF: Imaginary Friends in 2024, in which he has to deal with several special personalities that are not so easy to grasp. They may only exist in the mind of a young girl. The first trailer shows exactly what we can expect

New fantasy comedy with Ryan Reynolds: The first trailer for IF – Imaginary Friends inspires your imagination

The story tells of a young girl (Cailey Fleming) who has a special gift: she can see other people’s imaginary friends. They have long since been abandoned by their original children, who are now grown up and no longer have room for the friends they once imagined.

You can watch the trailer for IF: Imaginary Friends here:
IF: Imaginary Friends sounds like a live-action version of a Pixar movie à la Everything Stands on its Head. Behind the project is actor John Krasinski, who most recently established himself as a director with the A Quiet Place films. In IF, he directed, wrote the screenplay and took over production. He also appears in front of the camera.

Together with Reynolds and Fleming, Krasinski is one of the stars we see as people in IF. We also get to see Fiona Shaw, Bobby Moynihan, Louis Gossett Jr. and Alan S. Kim from Minari in their familiar faces. But that’s not the end of the cast. IF boasts an impressive line-up of other actors who lend their voices to the imaginary friends.

The imaginary friends in IF:

Phoebe Waller-Bridge
Steve Carell
Matt Damon
Emily Blunt
Maya Rudolph
Vince Vaughn
Sam Rockwell
Sebastian Maniscalco
Christopher Meloni
Awkwafina
Jon Stewart
Richard Jenkins

And if you’re wondering where you know leading lady Cailey Fleming from, she appeared in The Walking Dead for 53 episodes as Judith Grimes, the daughter of Rick and Lori Grimes. She also appeared as young Rey Skywalker in Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens and played young Sylvie in Loki season 1. IF marks her first major motion picture in which she plays a leading role.
