Just in time for Christmas, Titanic is being released in a new and restored version for home cinema. Rose and Jack’s tragic love story has lost none of its power after a quarter of a century

Even after 25 years, James Cameron’s masterpiece Titanic has lost none of its power. He skillfully interweaves the tragic catastrophe of the shipwreck on its maiden voyage with a fictional love story that also has to contend with a class system. This year, Titanic was shown again in German cinemas to mark its 25th anniversary, and in the best sound and picture quality.

Just in time for Christmas, the restored 4K version will be released for home cinema for the first time on December 15.

In addition to the restored version in 4K, Titanic is already available on Blu-ray, DVD and as a stream. However, the extensive bonus material is only available in the new version, more on that later.

Titanic continues to hold several records

Some of the Titanic records are outdated after 25 years, such as the most expensive film to date at 200 million US dollars. It is also no longer the only film to achieve box office takings of over a billion dollars, with James Cameron breaking his own record with Avatar. But there are still records that Titanic maintains even after a quarter of a century

At 87, Gloria Stuart is the oldest person ever to be nominated for an Oscar. In Titanic, she plays the aged Rose, who tells her story to her granddaughter and a research team. Titanic is also the only film to win the Oscar in all seven technical categories. Titanic shares first place in most Oscar wins and most Oscar nominations with other films.
