Disney+ has an adventure franchise with five films in its program that spent a total of 1.1 billion dollars and grossed 4.5 billion worldwide. But from part 4 onwards, the decline began.
You can watch Pirates of the Caribbean – Stranger Tides on Disney+. It is the fourth part of the adventure series, which can look back on impressive box office results. However, part 4 took the franchise in a new direction, which was detrimental to the franchise in the long term
Pirates of the Caribbean at Disney+: In Stranger Tides, Jack Sparrow sets sail in search of his youth
Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) embarks on an adventure that will lead him to the source of eternal youth. Together with his former rival Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), he sets off in search of the fabled place that promises immortality. At the same time, Angelica (Penélope Cruz), a woman from Jack’s past who could turn out to be the love of his life, comes back into his life. It’s just too bad that she’s the daughter of the notorious pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane).
Curse of the Caribbean 4 sealed the series’ demise
The second pirate adventure is the most successful installment in the series, but Pirates of the Caribbean 4 was the only film in the franchise to break the billion mark in box office receipts, coming in a close second

Despite high audience figures, the quality of the pirate adventures from Stranger Tides onwards declined sharply. This is also reflected in the rating figures. Part 3 also marked the end of Gore Verbinski’s self-contained first trilogy. The Pirates of the Caribbean series then had to reorient itself and suddenly find itself without its main characters Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley). Even the mermaid love story with Sam Claflin and Astrid Bergès-Frisbey couldn’t make up for their absence.
And despite all the enthusiasm for fan favorite Captain Jack Sparrow, the sequels from then on lacked a catchy story and were increasingly seen as “profit-oriented exploitation” of the popular film series (via Meta-Critic ). Six years after the last Pirates of the Caribbean entry, the next film Pirates of the Caribbean 6 isn’t quite getting anywhere with its plan to revive the series. Whether it will actually see the light of day on the big screen is currently written in the stars.
Pirates of the Caribbean – Stranger Tides thus took the first big step in the downward trend of a previously celebrated adventure franchise
