“Hard to even look at him”: Rebel Moon maker was terrified of his star Ed Skrein during the sci-fi shoot

Ed Skrein plays one of the biggest Rebel Moon roles as the villain Admiral Noble. He apparently immersed himself so deeply in his sci-fi character that he scared his colleagues

Acting is an extreme profession. At least that’s true for the stars who have immersed themselves so deeply in their roles that they found them hard to shake off afterwards. Heath Ledger (The Dark Knight) or Austin Butler (Elvis) are well-known examples.

They now include Ed Skrein, who can be seen in Netflix’s sci-fi blockbuster Rebel Moon – Part 1: Child of Fire: his bitterly evil role of Admiral Noble haunted him for longer than he would have liked. And caused anxiety during filming

Sci-fi star Ed Skrein unsettled his colleagues on the Rebel Moon set

As Rebel Moon writer Kurt Johnstad revealed in an interview with Moviepilot, Skrein was so connected to his role on set that it scared him:

It was hard to even look at Ed Skrein on set. He was so deep into his character. When he took it off and got in line for lunch, it was hard to go and talk to him. […] Recently I heard him say, ‘It took me a year to get out of character. […] Otherwise, he’s a very sweet, relaxed and cheerful guy who embraces you. But you don’t want to be hugged by Noble.

Johnstad was very impressed by Skrein’s meticulous approach. Nevertheless, it is to be hoped that the star has recovered from Noble by now. The character serves as the great antagonist in Rebel Moon: he and his soldiers violently occupy the village of Kora (Sofia Boutella). The young veteran then searches for warriors for a rebellion on the neighboring planets.
