Amazon’s Lord of the Rings series already gets 2nd actor for villain Sauron – confirming long-held theory

Amazon’s Lord of the Rings series The Rings of Power is working at full speed on season 2 and has apparently cast a second actor as the villain Sauron. This seems to confirm a long suspected story twist.

The fantasy blockbuster series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is set to return to Middle-earth next year with its second season on Amazon Prime. Season 1 focused primarily on the identity of villain Sauron. Apparently the games of hide-and-seek are not over yet, as a second actor has been cast as Sauron.

Attention, spoilers for season 1 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power follow.

2 Sauron in Lord of the Rings series: Amazon’s Middle-earth villain has more than one face in season 2
First things first: fans of Charlie Vickers need not fear that the ‘half-brand’ revealed as Sauron in the season 1 finale will now have to step down. Rather, Amazon seems to be fulfilling a promise in season 2 that has long been linked to the great Middle-earth antagonist: because in J.R.R. Tolkien, the mighty Sauron is a shape-shifter.

As reported by Fellowship of Fans, a fan site known for its mostly reliable leaks, another actor will be playing the part of the big baddie in season 2: Gavi Singh Chera. The rather unknown actor from series such as The Lazarus Project was already announced as a cast member for the new season a year ago. And now we know what role he is playing. This confirms the long-held theory that Sauron will wear different faces in the series

According to FoF, Gavi Singh Chera will play the original version of Sauron in season 2 of The Rings of Power, appearing angelic and ethereal. In flashbacks, he is said to have long hair, but in the present he has a shorter hairstyle. That sounds very much like his appearance as the seductively beautiful Annatar. Of course, nothing has been officially confirmed by Amazon.

The existence of shape-shifting in the fantasy series was recently demonstrated by the three mystics: In the season 1 finale, one of them transformed into the hairy-footed girl Nori.

The fact that two forms of Sauron would appear in season 2 was already leaked in April of this year. Only whether Charlie Vickers would don a mask or another star would appear was not yet known. The multiple casting of the villain now seems certain with Gavi Singh Chera. Will the power-hungry master of manipulation then appear as a doubly misunderstood character? In any case, Sauron is set to appear in season 2 as a more complex villain à la “Tony Soprano or Walter White.”
