One of the most interesting Netflix series of the month starts this week. In the action-comedy The Brothers Sun, Michelle Yeoh becomes a fearless gangster mother.
The 2024 series year has only just begun and Netflix already has some exciting highlights on offer in January. In addition to the return of Vikings star Travis Fimmel, series fans can look forward to a comedy series starring action legend Michelle Yeoh. She won an Oscar last year for her performance in the sci-fi multiverse spectacle Everything Everywhere All at Once.
What makes Yeoh’s new action series The Brothers Sun even more exciting is that it is the latest Netflix project from American Horror Story co-creator Brad Falchuk. In The Brothers Sun, the head of a Taiwanese gangster clan is murdered. Now his son Charles Sun (Justin Chien) fears for the safety of his relatives living in Los Angeles. His mother Eileen (Michelle Yeoh) knows how to defend herself against attackers, but there is a problem.
His younger brother Bruce (Sam Song Li) has no idea what business his family is involved in. Charles and Eileen would prefer to keep the truth a secret for as long as possible. But that’s impossible in the face of oncoming hordes of enemies.

The series was developed by Brad Falchuk and Byron Wu. Falchuk in particular can look back on a rich filmography of exciting series highlights. He has been working as a screenwriter and producer with series mogul Ryan Murphy for 20 years now. As co-creator, he has been involved in series such as American Horror Story, Scream Queens, 9-1-1: 911 L.A., Pose and The Politician.
For lead actress Michelle Yeoh, The Brothers Sun is already the third series project for Netflix. She previously played the fighter Lotus in the historical adventure Marco Polo and played a fighting elf in the fantasy series The Witcher: Blood Origin.
Season 1 of The Brothers Sun will be available to stream with all eight episodes on Netflix from January 4, 2024. It is not yet known whether the black humor action series will be continued with a second season.
