Recently, Wednesday star Jenna Ortega made headlines with her Scream exit. Following the departure of lead actress Melissa Barrera, Ortega also announced her departure from the horror franchise.
Now there is a new casting rumor surrounding the actress, linking her to a new sci-fi project from Thor 3 and 4 director Taika Waititi. The planned film is an adaptation of a popular novel by a Nobel Prize winner.
Jenna Ortega rumor: This could be her new sci-fi film
According to Comic Book, Hollywood insider Jeff Sneider posted that Ortega is rumored to be in talks to star in Waititi’s next film.

This is a film adaptation of the science fiction novel Klara and the Sun, published in 2021. The book was written by the British author Kazuo Ishiguro, who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2017. At the end of 2021, the novel landed on Barack Obama’s list of his favorite books of the year, among others.

Klara and the Sun is set in a dystopian future in which androids are created to help young people in difficult times. The main character of the novel is the artificially created Klara, who is chosen by a sick girl as her new best friend.
When will the new sci-fi film by Taika Waititi be released in cinemas?
There is no start date yet for the planned Klara and the Sun adaptation. If filming can still begin in 2024, the sci-fi film will be released in cinemas in 2025 at the earliest. The production is also likely to be heavily dependent on Jenna Ortega’s schedule. The Netflix star will first be in front of the camera for Wednesday season 2 with a different location.
