The Oscar season is underway and the struggling Golden Globes want to get in on the act. The sci-fi film Poor Things with Emma Stone and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer are among the winning films
With five Golden Globes, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer was the big winner last night, taking the prize for Best Film (Drama). In the Comedy/Musical category, the science fiction film Poor Things with Emma Stone beat the most successful film of 2023, Barbie with Margot Robbie.
On the series side, the final season of Succession (HBO/Sky) was honored with a total of four awards, just ahead of The Bear: King of the Kitchen (FX/Disney+) and Beef (Netflix), which each received three awards.

Lily Gladstone makes history with Killers of the Flower Moon
One of the outstanding awards of the night was the first Golden Globe for Studio Ghibli founder Hayao Miyazaki (The Boy and the Heron). Lily Gladstone (Killers of the Flower Moon) also marked a milestone as the first Indigenous actress to win the Globe for Best Lead Actress (Drama).
Whether the Golden Globes can serve as a yardstick for the Oscars on March 11 is questionable, however. The awards, which have been surrounded by several scandals, are voted for by a group of 300 international journalists. There is hardly any overlap with the Academy Awards electorate, which comes from the film industry.
