Following the success of the HBO series The Last of Us, elaborate video game adaptations are more popular than ever before. The adaptation of the PlayStation hit of the same name thrilled an audience of millions and was even voted the best series of 2023 by us. Netflix and Amazon now want to build on this.
The two streaming giants will soon be filming two more popular PlayStation games that promise huge blockbuster entertainment: While Netflix is implementing the sci-fi adventure Horizon Zero Dawn, Amazon is creating the brutal fantasy epic God of War. Amazon and Netflix film God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn
As part of the CES 2024 tech fair, Sony gave a few small updates on various video game film adaptations this week. It also revealed the status of the God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn series. Scripts are currently being written for both projects, which means that the race will soon begin to see which live-action series will be released first.
Both the Netflix series Horizon and the Amazon series God of War are being produced by PlayStation Productions, among others. The Sony production company has already been involved in the video game adaptations Uncharted and Gran Turismo as well as the series The Last of Us and Twisted Metal.

The God of War series has been around since 2005, but the Amazon adaptation is based on the video game of the same name from 2018, which transports the Spartan (anti-)hero Kratos to the world of Norse mythology. Together with his son Atreus, he wants to scatter the ashes of his dead wife. An adventurous journey begins, which takes the father-son duo through several worlds and brings them face to face with dangerous creatures and deities.
The team behind the series adaptation are The Expanse creators Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, who are responsible for the screenplays, and The Wheel of Time creator Rafe Judkins as showrunner.
