Sherlock fans can look forward to another special appearance this year: after his iconic performance as Moriarty, Andrew Scott is taking on the criminal lead role in a new Netflix series

Even seven years after it ended, the crime series Sherlock with Benedict Cumberbatch is still considered by many to be one of the best series ever. The hit series is currently streaming on Amazon Prime . However, fans of villain Moriarty (Andrew Scott) should turn their attention to a new series by the star on Netflix

Sherlock villain Andrew Scott will soon be gracing Netflix in a new series role that fits perfectly

While some fans are still hoping for the unlikely 5th season of Sherlock and other formats such as the newly ordered series Watson are trying to get a slice of the master detective’s pie, the most exciting series for Sherlock fans is just around the corner: Moriarty actor Andrew Scott (Fleabag) is becoming Ripley for Netflix, which should bring back many of his qualities from Sherlock

The Netflix series Ripley is a new edition of Patricia Highsmith’s crime novel The Talented Mr. Ripley*. This prelude to a 5-part book series has already been filmed twice with the French thriller Only the Sun Was Witness (1960) and Matt Damon’s performance in The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999). Now Andrew Scott is donning Ripley’s identity for the first series adaptation:

In the black-and-white Netflix series, Tom Ripley (Andrew Scott), who comes from humble beginnings, is sent to Italy in the 1960s to persuade wealthy heir Dickie Greenleaf (Johnny Flynn) to return home. Instead, however, he allows himself to be drawn into his party life and also casts an eye on Dickie’s girlfriend Marge (Dakota Fanning). More and more, he dreams of leading an equally privileged life … maybe even exactly that?

Anyone familiar with the novel or one of the earlier adaptations of Ripley knows that the Sherlock villain will once again be able to unleash his mutability and criminal energies in the Netflix series. And this time Andrew Scott doesn’t have a genius like Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock to stand up to him.

Andrew Scott can next be seen in the acclaimed film All of Us Strangers in cinemas from February 8, 2024. A specific start date for Ripley has not yet been announced by Netflix. However, the series is set to be released by the streamer in 2024
