Thanks to his strong performance in Killers of the Flower Moon, Leonardo DiCaprio is currently in the Oscar race. Now his next film has been confirmed. He is shooting with another directing legend.
What will Leonardo DiCaprio shoot next? After the huge success of Killers of the Flower Moon, one name in particular has popped up in connection with DiCaprio in recent months: Quentin Tarantino. Rumors suggested that DiCaprio would take on the lead role in the master director’s last major feature film.
Now it turns out that Tarantino is involved in the project of a completely different master for the time being: Paul Thomas Anderson. The directorial god behind masterpieces such as Magnolia, There Will Be Blood and most recently Licorice Pizza is shooting a new film this year, as the industry magazine Deadline has learned.

In addition to DiCaprio, Regina Hall (Support the Girls) and Sean Penn (Mystic River) are among the main cast of Anderson’s new film. Nothing is yet known about the plot. Thanks to Deadline, we do know that the film – unlike Anderson’s recent directorial work – is set in a contemporary setting.

The as-yet-untitled film is being made under the Warner Bros. Discovery umbrella and is said to have a budget of up to 100 million US dollars, according to Variety citing insider sources. This makes the film the most expensive in Anderson’s filmography to date. We can’t wait to see what he does with such a large budget.
The project is also exciting in terms of Warner’s development. Under the leadership of controversial CEO David Zaslav, the studio has fallen into disrepute with many filmmakers. The handling of films such as Batgirl, which were simply locked away in the poison cabinet for tax reasons, caused uncertainty.
With Anderson and DiCaprio, Warner has secured two big movie names and is thus building trust with Hollywood filmmakers. The recent signing of Tom Cruise, who is to develop new blockbusters and franchise sequels at Warner from now on, signaled the same, as the Hollywood Reporter reported.
Is Dicaprio completely out of the new Tarantino?
No, DiCaprio can still star in Tarantino’s final film – if not directly in the lead role, then perhaps in a supporting role. Last but not least, the shooting of Tarantino’s movie farewell seems even further away than Anderson’s new film. There should be enough room in DiCaprio’s calendar if he is actually cast.
What’s more, we could be in for another collaboration between DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese, with whom he brought Killers of the Flower Moon to the screen, in the next few years. DiCaprio was considered for the high seas adventure The Wager. However, the project is not too concrete so far.
