Fans of the anime One Piece are in for a huge streaming surprise. Netflix is adding the series to its program this week and showing new episodes
Netflix scored a hit last year with the live-action adaptation One Piece, which is one of the best series of 2023. However, there was no trace of the original anime One Piece on the streaming service for years. This will change on January 13, 2024: the anime adventures of Ruffy and co. will be streamed on Netflix for the first time. However, there is one major restriction:
One Piece is now running weekly with new episodes on Netflix
If you’re hoping to finally be able to stream all 1088 episodes of One Piece so far, you’ll be disappointed. For the time being, the streamer will only show the Egghead arc and thus the latest episodes weekly and with a one-week delay to the broadcast on Crunchyroll in the original Japanese with subtitles. Let’s start with episode 1089!
What is the Egghead Arc? This is the first story arc of the final saga of One Piece. After more than 25 years, we are actually heading towards the end. The beginning of the final chapter takes Monkey D. Ruffy and the Straw Hat Gang to the mysterious and futuristic island of Egghead, where the pirates meet, among others, the scientist Dr. Vegapunk.

The previous story arc of One Piece demanded a lot of patience from fans. We spent four years and almost 200 episodes with Ruffy in the land of Wano. It is not yet known how many episodes the new adventure from Egghead will comprise. In the manga, this arc has been running since 2022 and is due to be completed this year.
One Piece anime streaming: Are all episodes coming to Netflix soon?
Those who want to watch the One Piece anime in Germany only have a few options. All episodes are available on Crunchyroll, but only in the original Japanese with subtitles. There is still no way to stream all the old episodes with the German dubbed version. These are only available on DVD and Blu-ray.
However, the inclusion of the latest One Piece episodes in Netflix’s offering is a first glimmer of hope that the previous adventures of the Straw Hat Pirates might one day be available there after all. In some other countries (including the USA), hundreds of One Piece episodes are already in Netflix’s catalog.
One Piece has become a strong brand for Netflix, not least thanks to the real-life series, which the streamer will be expanding diligently in the future. In addition to a 2nd season of the Netflix adaptation, a prequel anime, Monsters: 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation, will be released on January 21.
