As the trailer clearly reveals, the new Halo season focuses on the fall of Reach. This is one of the most significant events in the Halo game universe, in which the planet Reach is almost completely destroyed by an Alliance attack.

Alyssa Mercante also wrote an article for Kotaku about how the new trailer promises a much better second season of Halo. In her opinion, the fall of Reach in particular, which results in the death of around 400 million people in the game universe, is hinted at in the preview with the necessary drastic consequence.
