Netflix is continuing what is probably its most successful horror series and the plot already sounds extremely promising for genre fans.
Two and a half years ago, Netflix delivered a much-watched horror hit with the Fear Street trilogy. Now the next film, Fear Street – Part 4, is finally showing signs of life and revealing the first details of the plot.
Netflix chooses popular horror theme for Fear Steet 4
2021, the horror films Fear Street – Part 1: 1994, Fear Street – Part 2: 1978 and Fear Street – Part 3: 1666 were released on Netflix within a very short time, scaring audiences throughout the summer. A fourth part of the Fear Street series, including director Chloe Okuno (Watcher), was announced a year ago in December 2022. Now, however, original author R.L. Stine has also confirmed that the sequel is going ahead:

Movie news: I can finally announce that a new Fear Street movie is about to go into production at Netflix. It’s based on my Fear Street book The Prom Queen. Good news!
The main series of Fear Street novels comprises a total of 51 works. The novel mentioned by R.L. Stine, The Prom Queen*, is the 15th volume of his creepy young adult books. In German, it is entitled Mörderischer Tanz: Hinter dem Vorhang lauert der Tod *. With the high school setting and bloody prom, Netflix has chosen a horror theme that has been popular since Carrie at the latest.
In the original book of the Fear Street movie, Lizzy can hardly believe her luck when she and four other candidates are nominated to be queen of the prom. But then someone starts murdering the potential prom queens. To avoid becoming the next victim, Lizzy tries to find out who is behind the gruesome killings.
Will Fear Steet 4 refer to Netflix’s previous trilogy?
It is not yet known whether Fear Street 4 will be a stand-alone film or in some way linked to the three previous films. The fact that the new horror film, unlike the first trilogy, has a fixed template suggests that it will work on its own. At the same time, Screenrant points out that the first films were already set in the fictional town of Shadyside, where The Prom Queen is also set.
A return of well-known Fear Street characters, especially from the first part set in the 90s, would be quite possible in Netflix’s revival of the iconic horror series, at least in supporting roles. After the first Fear Street films paid homage to slasher icons (part 1 was reminiscent of Scream, part 2 of Friday the 13th), the hunt for the beauty queen is sure to once again incorporate a lot of genre love into the new film.
When is the 4th part of Fear Street coming to Netflix?
A specific Netflix start date for Fear Street 4 has not yet been set. A release on Halloween would of course be ideal. However, as filming for the horror movie is not due to start until spring, it is more likely that the sequel will not reach the streamer until 2025
