New The Walking Dead series confuses: The sad reason Rick Grimes forgot his son

by Tommy

In the trailer for the new The Walking Dead series The Ones Who Live, Rick Grimes remembers the family he once left behind. But why does he forget his son?

After the end of The Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, the most exciting spin-off of the zombie saga to date, will be released in a few weeks. It finally sees a reunion with Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) after more than 5 years. However, a lot has changed since his disappearance from the original series and the former series hero has changed sides.

The new trailer for The Ones Who Live promises a lot of emotion and powerful action. However, one detail could confuse The Walking fans: has Rick Grimes forgotten his own son in his years of absence?

Why Rick Jr. is not mentioned in The Walking Dead trailer for The Ones Who Live

The trailer for the new The Walking Dead series offers Rick fans an emotional moment in which he remembers the most important people in his life. Off-screen, he lists the reasons why he won’t give up after being captured by the Civic Republic Military and continues to fight through:

I chose my wife. I chose my daughter. I chose my life.
Anyone who continued watching the original series after Rick’s exit at the beginning of season 9 will be puzzled by this moment, however. Hasn’t Rick Grimes forgotten someone? Because Rick not only has a (foster) daughter named Judith (Cailey Fleming), but also a second son named Rick “RJ” Grimes Jr. (Antony Azor) in addition to Carl Grimes, who died in season 8.

The reason why he doesn’t talk about his son is as simple as it is sad. Rick Grimes doesn’t even know that he has another child. His wife Michonne (Danai Gurira) only found out she was pregnant after he disappeared. Nine months later, Rick Jr. was born, who at the end of the series lives with Judith in the Commonwealth and waits patiently to meet his father, the “brave man”, at some point.

As soon as the Grimes couple are reunited in the spin-off The Ones Who Live, The Walking Dead fans should prepare themselves for the tearful moment when Rick learns of his youngest son’s existence

When does The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live start in Germany?

The new The Walking Dead series with Rick and Michonne will be launched on AMC in the USA on February 25, 2024. German fans won’t have to wait long. In this country, The Ones Who Live will start one day later, on February 26, 2024, on Magenta TV. The six episodes will be released on a weekly basis.

If you want to discover even more The Walking Dead spin-offs, you can also do so on Magenta TV. There you can stream the three spin-off series Tales of the Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: Dead City and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.
