On Disney+: Really gripping adventure film in which two superstars fight bears in the wilderness

Old-school adventure entertainment with proper survival thrills was on TV at the weekend. You can catch up on the movie with Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin on Disney+

Two rivals on the edge of the abyss provided suspense on TV at the weekend. Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin get caught up in a complicated love triangle in Rivals on the Brink, and that doesn’t even include the fearsome bear that makes their lives hell in the wilderness.

In the adventure film, Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin must survive in the wilderness

Wealthy entrepreneur Charles Morse (Anthony Hopkins) and his much younger wife Mickey (Elle MacPherson) travel to Alaska with fashion photographer Robert Green (Alec Baldwin) for a photo shoot. However, a personal rivalry develops between Robert and Charles due to Robert’s interest in Mickey.

When the two men are stranded in the icy Alaskan wilderness after a plane crash, they not only fight for survival, but also with jealousy and hatred towards each other. In order to return to civilization, Charles and Robert have to overcome their personal differences. But a giant bear gets in their way.

The real star of On Razor’s Edge is a bear

The furry giant in question is played by one of the animal stars of the 1990s. Bart the Bear was born in 1977 and played the lead role in Jean-Jacques Annaud’s The Bear. He was part of the cast of Legends of Passion alongside Hopkins and Brad Pitt and grew to a height of around 2.90 meters (as you can read on the informative website BartTheBear.com). Weighing 680 kilograms, Bart could have taken a beating on set, but was a pleasant colleague for Anthony Hopkins to work with, as can be read in the obituary of Bart from 2000.

The majestic beard is one of the showpieces of On the Edge of a Knife, which spices up fast-paced survival action with an underlying psychological tension between the two main characters. The rock-solid adventure entertainment is rounded off by a score by master composer Jerry Goldsmith. As usual, Goldsmith shakes some epic melodies out of his wrist (or at least it seems that way), the likes of which are rarely heard in modern Hollywood films. On the Edge of a Knife offers entertainment not only for 7 vs. Wild fans, but also for viewers who have taken 90s adventures such as On the Wild River or The Ghost and the Darkness to their cinematic hearts.
