First reviews celebrate the new True Detective direction
The new True Detective season currently has a strong average of 92 percent on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. This means it is currently even outperforming the acclaimed first season from 2014 by one percentage point.
In his review for Asynchronous Media Christopher Cross writes, among other things:
With a strong ensemble cast, a dark and moody atmosphere, and led by ferocious performances from Foster and Reis, True Detective: Night Country is a triumphant return to series glory.
In her similarly positive Variety review, Alison Herman praises the increased horror content of the new True Detective season:
