This is what the post-apocalyptic series Helgoland 513 is all about
After a global catastrophe, 513 survivors on the high seas island of Heligoland in 2039 struggle against both the adverse environment and the tensions and rivalries within their own community. In order to distribute the limited resources on the rocky island, a “social ranking” system has been introduced that assigns the inhabitants a fixed place in a brutal hierarchy. A doctor, for example, is at the top, while other, less “useful” people fight their way through the lower levels of the community. The community comes under additional pressure from a group from the mainland seeking refuge on the island.
Helgoland 513 was created from an idea by Veronica Priefer (The King of Palma) and Florian Wentsch (Legal Affairs). Robert Schwentke (The Captain) acts as showrunner, head writer and also directed.
The cast of the end-time series includes Martina Gedeck (Wunderschön), Alexander Fehling, who was already part of the cast of Schwentke’s Der Hauptmann and Seneca, as well as Samuel Finzi (Der Hauptmann) and Antje Traue (Man of Steel).
The start date for Helgoland 513 has also already been set
Helgoland 513 starts on March 15, 2024 on Sky and WOW. 7 episodes are planned. Sky Studios and Ufa Fiction are behind the production.
If you want to plunge into an end-time story on an island before then, you should make a note of Christian Alvart’s pandemic thriller Sløborn, which is currently streaming on Netflix and in the ZDF Mediathek. We can’t wait to see what twists Helgoland 513 adds to the genre. With the social ranking as the basic structure of the island’s society, there is certainly plenty of fuel for a suspenseful story
