A sci-fi actioner that got its unusual start as an acclaimed YouTube short film and received a feature film version thanks to fans is now getting a sequel from Netflix, which will launch as early as next month.
Among the 37 most exciting sci-fi films to be released in 2024 is a sequel, which is getting a sequel on Netflix after a break of over four years: Code 8 Part II continues the gritty sci-fi actioner Code 8 and has now revealed its February start date along with new sneak peeks.
Code 8 is back: Netflix’s sci-fi sequel tackles police violence and robots with electric shocks
As Entertainment Weekly reports, the Netflix launch of the Code 8 sequel, surprisingly announced two months ago, is less than six weeks away. In the first part, we were introduced to a world in which four percent of all people possess a supernatural gift and are rejected and treated with hostility by their fellow human beings.
Connor Reed (Robbie Amell), an electrician living on the breadline, also possessed such secret powers. In order to help his sick mother, he eventually put his electrical gift at the service of telekinetic criminal Garrett Kelton (Stephen Amell), who recruited him for a bank robbery with fatal consequences.
Code 8: Part II has now revealed the first images and the plot of the Netflix sequel, in which the robot vigilantes (and dogs) will once again feature:
Part 2 of Code 8 reunites the two Amell cousins in their old roles in the fictional Lincoln City. Here, a teenager with special powers fights for justice for her murdered brother, who fell victim to corrupt police officers. As the only witness, she also ends up on the hit list and turns to Connor and Garrett for help. But the Netflix poster already reveals: “Power corrupts.”
The 2019 Canadian sci-fi film Code 8 was based on an acclaimed short film from 2016 (also entitled Code 8). A subsequent crowdfunding campaign triggered the feature film adaptation. Part 2, on the other hand, was entirely in the hands of Netflix this time.
