Sherlock fans can look forward to Andrew Scott’s return in a bitterly evil role. That’s what the first trailer for the Netflix series Ripley promises

There are villains in literary history who even give comic book counterpart Joker the creeps. Sherlock’s antagonist Moriarty, for example. Or Patricia Highsmith’s unscrupulous upstart Tom Ripley. Both are now joined by exceptional actor Andrew Scott, who takes on the lead role in the upcoming Netflix series Ripley after his Moriarty appearance. And doesn’t look a bit less disturbing, as the first trailer shows

Netflix brings back 69-year-old thriller story with Sherlock star

Ripley is a series adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s bestselling novel The Talented Mr. Ripley. The story revolves around the young Tom Ripley, who is tasked with bringing the rich heir Dickie Greenleaf back to the USA from his hedonistic vacation in Italy. Ripley takes a liking to his target’s lifestyle. And eventually resorts to criminal methods to realize his dreams.

Highsmith’s original book was written in 1955 and has since been made into a film several times. Perhaps best known is the Oscar-nominated adaptation of The Talented Mr. Ripley from 1999, in which Matt Damon, Jude Law and Cate Blanchett play the main characters.

It is not yet clear to what extent the Netflix series with Andrew Scott will give Highsmith’s thriller story a new twist. Anyone who can still feel Scott’s iconic performance as Moriarty in their bones will not be able to doubt his suitability for the role of Ripley.

When is the Ripley series coming to Netflix?

Ripley will be released on Netflix on April 4, 2024 and will comprise eight episodes. In addition to Scott, Johnny Flynn (The Outfit) and Dakota Fanning (War of the Worlds) can also be seen in front of the camera.
