In just a few weeks, one of the biggest series highlights of 2024 will start here on Disney+. In Shogun, you can expect a samurai epic set in 1600s Japan, based on James Clavell’s 1975 novel of the same name. Now there’s a new trailer that provides exciting insights into the visually stunning bloodshed

Power games and a war of the samurai: this is what awaits you in the Shogun series at Disney+

Shogun is the second film adaptation of the samurai story, which was filmed as a mini-series in 1980. Back then, it starred cinema legend Toshirō Mifune (The Seven Samurai), whose role in the new version is played by John Wick 4 star Hiroyuki Sanada. The new edition was produced by US broadcaster FX as a multilingual 10-part series that was in development for over 5 years.

In the story of Shogun, the English navigator John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis) and his crew from the Dutch merchant ship Erasmus are stranded on the coast of Japan and promptly become prisoners. Fortunately, he has valuable knowledge that can be of use to Prince Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada) in the conflict with the Council of Regents.

As John rises in the daimyo’s favor and gets closer to the mysterious translator Lady Mariko (Anna Sawai from Monarch: Legacy of Monsters), he finds himself at the center of a vast conspiracy of power-hungry feudal lords as well as scheming Portuguese and Jesuits. A “war is inevitable”. That’s the promise of the new trailer, which is not stingy with sex, blood, violence and epic battle scenes.

When will the Shogun series start on Disney+?

The 10-part samurai epic will start in this country on February 27, 2024 on Disney+, parallel to the US broadcast on the TV channel FX. There will be two episodes at the start. The remaining eight episodes will be released on a weekly basis
