Incredible Killers of the Flower Moon rumor: Another master director secretly rewrote the entire film

An exciting new rumor is circulating about Martin Scorsese’s latest epic Killers of the Flower Moon. Allegedly, large parts of the script have been rewritten by a well-known director

Martin Scorsese’s 206-minute epic Killers of the Flower Moon has had an eventful production history. While the overlong film could only be realized for its own streaming service Apple TV+ thanks to Apple financing, the script was significantly changed during production.

Now a wild Killers of the Flower Moon rumor has surfaced online, linking another master director to the film alongside Scorsese. However, this has not been officially confirmed

Master director is said to have rewritten large parts of the Killers of the Flower Moon screenplay

On his blog World of Reel, Jordan Ruimy writes, citing two anonymous sources, that director Paul Thomas Anderson (Boogie Nights, There Will Be Blood) is said to have rewritten much of the script for Killers of the Flower Moon. However, the information from World of Reel should be taken with a grain of salt. Ruimy has often been wrong with his scoops in the past.

What gives the Killers of the Flower Moon thing more weight is that the respected film critic Charles Bramesco, who writes for the British newspaper The Guardian, among others, also points to Anderson’s involvement:

The script for Killers of the Flower Moon was actually written by screenwriter Eric Roth. As confusion has now arisen in the wake of the 2024 Oscar nominations that Roth was not considered, Bramesco shared his unconfirmed info about the previously secret Paul Thomas Anderson involvement in the Scorsese film.

As we already know, the story of Killers of the Flower Moon initially focused much more on the role of FBI agent Tom White, who Leonardo DiCaprio was initially supposed to play. During the development of his film, Scorsese realized that he was concentrating too much on a story about white men and changed the script considerably. In the end, DiCaprio took on the role of Ernest Burkhart, while Jesse Plemons played a much smaller part as Tom White.

Paul Thomas Anderson is said to have made the script changes as a favor to Scorsese. The two have a friendly relationship in their private lives. Scorsese was also a great inspiration for Anderson’s own work, particularly his masterpiece Boogie Nights. Production has reportedly just begun on the director’s new project, which also stars Leonardo DiCaprio.
