The perfect replacement for In Eternal Guilt opens in cinemas tomorrow: a Star Wars villain causes decades of terror

In Eternal Guilt has dominated the Netflix charts since the beginning of the year. The next big crime thriller opens in cinemas tomorrow. It is The Slayer’s Awakening with Daisy Ridley in the leading role.
The year is still young, but Netflix has already launched its first series high-flyer. The eight-part Harlan Coben adaptation In Eternal Debt has been in the top 10 most popular Netflix series since the beginning of January. No wonder the streaming service has already ordered the next two Coben series.

If you don’t want to wait that long for the next thriller, we have the perfect replacement for you. A thrilling crime story, also based on a successful book, is being shown in cinemas from tomorrow. The Slayer’s Awakening is based on the novel The Moor’s Daughter by bestselling author Karen Dionne

After In Eternal Debt on Netflix, the crime thriller The Slayer’s Wake is coming to cinemas

The story of The Slayer’s Wake tells the tale of a young woman, Helena (Daisy Ridley), whose mother was kidnapped by a man named Jacob (Ben Mendelsohn), who is also her father. Helena grew up in captivity far away from civilization before the so-called Moor King was caught by the authorities.

Here you can watch the trailer for The Slayer’s Wake:

Years later, Helena learns that Jacob has escaped from prison. She fears that he is after her own daughter. Helena is determined not to let the past repeat itself. With her survival instincts sharpened, she becomes a hunter and sets off in search of the escaped psychopath.

Daisy Ridley and Ben Mendelsohn: Two Star Wars stars return to the movies in The Slayer’s Wake

The Slayer’s Awakening marks one of the first major starring roles Daisy Ridley has taken on since the end of the Star Wars trilogy, in which she starred as Rey Skywalker. In recent years, things have been surprisingly quiet for the British actress, although she has been shooting new films almost non-stop. Now she is finally returning to the big screen after a long break.

In addition to The Slayer’s Wake, Ridley has three films in her filmography that are awaiting release, from the indie drama Sometimes I Think About Dying to the Gertrude Eberle biopic Young Woman and the Sea and the neo-noir Magpie. She also had a speaking role in the animated film The Inventor. None of them have yet been released in German (home) cinemas.

Ridley is not the only Star Wars star in The Slayer Awakens. Ben Mendelsohn was also able to prove his acting talent in the galaxy far, far away. In Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, he played the villain Orson Krennic, who pushes ahead with the construction of the Death Star. Now he can once again show his abysmal side, which he has already proven on several occasions.

Mendelsohn’s specialty is creepy characters that you never want to cross paths with. Particularly noteworthy here is the unfortunately forgotten Netflix series Bloodline, in which he shone in a shady role. Now he faces Daisy Ridley on the moor. After the nerve-wracking trailer, we can’t wait to see which of the two will leave the desolate wetlands alive
