The unique mixture of melodrama, soap opera, crime comedy and horror rightly achieved cult status in the 90s. Strange things are going on in Denmark’s largest hospital: the ghost of a girl is haunting the elevator, a phantom ambulance appears every night and disappears again without a trace and a pregnant doctor’s foetus is developing far too quickly. It’s a good thing there’s the permanent patient Mrs. Drusse (Kirsten Rolffes). The amateur detective with a penchant for the spiritual takes on the case.

After 25 years, the third and final season ends the cult series Geister
After a quarter of a century, Lars von Trier presented his sequel for the first time during the Venice Film Festival in 2022. The press conference is also included as bonus material on the home cinema version.
Despite the long time between sequels, the cast includes familiar faces such as Ghita Nørby, Søren Pilmark and Birgitte Raaberg. But fans can also look forward to new actors. The cast includes Scandinavian actors Alexander Skarsgård (Succession), Mikael Persbrandt (Sex Education) and Lars Mikkelsen (The Witcher), who have also enjoyed success in other major international series.

The premiere in Venice turned out to be a success. Former Moviepilot editor-in-chief Lisa Ludwig was also there at the time and was very positive in her detailed review of the new horror season:
Lars von Trier, with his flair for the disgusting, creates images that linger in the memory and a somehow coherent story that combines the best of Stranger Things and Scrubs.
One problem, however, as in other works by Trier, is that he doesn’t take certain topics seriously. For example, he approaches gender policy discussions or the violence against women portrayed with a wooden mallet instead of sensitivity.
