The series Outlander delights fans with a mix of fantasy and romance in a historical setting. Now you can stream season 6 on Netflix for the first time.
The romantic time travel story Outlander is one of the best and most popular fantasy series of the last 10 years. However, anyone watching the series in Germany had to adjust to a major change from season 6 onwards, as the epic story of the Fraser clan was no longer broadcast on free TV.
Previously, the new episodes of season 6 were only available to watch for a fee. However, fans who prefer to stream Outlander as a subscription had to be more patient than usual. Almost 3 years (!) after season 5 was added to Netflix’s program, the time has finally come: Outlander season 6 has been streaming on Netflix since February 3, 2024.
Outlander on Netflix: Season 6 is shorter than usual and ends without a conclusion
Outlander tells the story of Claire (Caitriona Balfe), who travels back to 18th century Scotland through a magical stone circle and falls in love with Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan). Over the years, the characters’ situation has changed drastically. Since season 4, the Frasers have been living in the colony of North Carolina and building a life there as the American War of Independence draws ominously closer.
The plot of season 6 is based on parts of the novel A Breath of Snow and Ashes by author Diana Gabaldon. In the novel, life on Frasers Ridge is shaken up by the arrival of a family called Christie, among other things.

Those looking forward to binging Outlander season 6 directly on Netflix are in for a big disappointment. The new season consists of just eight episodes and is the shortest to date. What’s more, the reunion with Jamie, Claire and co. ends on a huge cliffhanger and without a proper conclusion.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and lead actress Caitriona Balfe’s pregnancy, only 8 of the planned 12 episodes were filmed. This means that the actual season finale can only be seen at the beginning of season 7, which has been given 4 more episodes to make up for it
When is Outlander season 7 coming to Netflix?
If you want to find out what happens next for Jamie and Claire as well as Brianna (Sophie Skelton) and Roger (Richard Rankin), you can already stream season 7 in German as a purchased VoD. But there is a small catch, as only 8 of a total of 16 new episodes were released last year. The second half of the season is due to be released this year. Anyone who has purchased a season pass from Amazon, for example, will receive the remaining episodes when they are released.
As the season is not yet complete, it is not yet clear whether it will end up in Netflix’s program unfinished. In view of the release strategy for season 6, Outlander season 7 (part 1) could be available on Netflix in spring 2025.
However, the story of Jamie and Claire is far from over after season 7. Outlander will receive an 8th season, which will also be the last. The final episodes will be filmed this year and are expected to start in the USA on Starz in 2025. With Outlander: Blood of My Blood, a prequel series about Jamie’s parents is also in development.
