Many Netflix fans celebrated the first season of the thriller series Ratched in 2020. Although a second season had already been greenlit, it will never come, star Sarah Paulson has now declared
Netlfix delivers endless horror. This is not only due to the uninterrupted supply of horror in the range, but in this case has a literal meaning. The series Ratched, celebrated by many fans, starring Sarah Paulson (American Horror Story) and based on an idea by genre master Ryan Murphy, is apparently not getting a second season.
Netflix makes horror fans wait 4 years for Ratched season 2 for nothing
Ratched tells the backstory of Mildred Ratched (Paulson), who film fans will recognize as the iconic villain from the masterpiece One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. In the Netflix series, she already works as a nurse in a psychiatric ward, but has selfish, sinister motives. The full consequences of which will probably never come to light.
At least that’s what lead actress Paulson herself reveals, answering the fan question of whether Ratched season 2 is to be expected with a clear “no.”

Paulson’s statement will surprise many fans. As What’s on Netflix reports, the streaming service had ordered two seasons of the thriller series from the outset. So at some point in the four years since the first episodes were released in 2020, there must have been a rethink. But why?
There is no official explanation, leaving fans to speculate. According to What’s on Netflix, the series was very expensive at 10 million or more per episode, while at the same time it received mostly average reviews despite four Emmy nominations (via Metacritic ). Perhaps Netflix didn’t like the cost-benefit calculation in the end.
Or perhaps it was difficult to coordinate the busy schedules of Paulson, Murphy and the various other stars of the series for a second season. Either way, Ratched fans will wish they had heard the bad news sooner.
