Series fans can look forward to a huge samurai epic on Disney+ at the end of February. Historical battles and bloody action await you in Shōgun.
In two weeks, one of the most exciting new series of the year is coming to Disney+. The samurai adventure epic Shogun is based on the 1975 novel of the same name by James Clavell and unleashes epic battles and historical drama in 1600s Japan.
This is what the samurai series Shōgun is about
The story revolves around the British navigator John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis), who is on his way to Japan with a Dutch merchant ship. After getting into a maritime accident, John is stranded on the coast of Japan.

Here he ends up as a prisoner at the court of Daimyo Toranaga (John Wick 4 star Hiroyuki Sanada), whose trust he slowly gains. But after John falls in love with the translator Lady Toda Mariko (Anna Sawai), he has to make a serious decision in order to survive.

The novel has already been filmed as a series in 1980. Back then, the Japanese star Toshirō Mifune (The Seven Samurai) played the leading role. The new version, for which The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power director Charlotte Brändström was behind the camera, is designed as a mini-series.
When will Shōgun start on Disney+?
The first two episodes of the adventure series will come to Disney+ on February 27, 2024. After that, one of the ten episodes will be released every week on the streaming service.
