A new live-action adaptation of the fantasy story Masters of the Universe has been canceled by Netflix. Now the project is to be rescued by a Transformers maker at Amazon

The famous toy brand from Mattel has grown into a multimedia franchise since its inception in the 1980s, with numerous comics, series and the live-action film Masters of the Universe starring action legend Dolph Lundgren. Since the early 2000s, Hollywood has been working on another live-action adaptation, which has been repeatedly sent to development hell over the years.
Most recently, studio Sony wanted to bring a Masters of the Universe film to Netflix, where 3 He-Man animated series have also been released in recent years. The bitter disappointment followed in the summer of 2023: the streamer canceled the project, which would have featured Kyle Allen in the lead role. After it was announced that Amazon was looking to save the Masters of the Universe movie, the project is now showing a new sign of life. According to Deadline, Travis Knight, who directed the acclaimed Transformers film Bumblebee, is currently in final negotiations to direct. The script will be written by Chris Butler (Kubo – The Brave Samurai) based on the previous Netflix script by Dave Callaham, Aaron Nee and Adam Nee.
There is also some initial information about the plot of the He-Man film. The story does not begin on He-Man’s homeland of Eternia, but on Earth. Nine-year-old Prince Adam lands there in a spaceship and begins a year-long search for his legendary magic sword. Two decades later, he finds it and travels back to his planet, which he must protect from the sinister Skeletor.
