A four-hour version of Dune is said to have existed and sci-fi fans are licking their fingers. Director Denis Villeneuve has bad news for them.
Denis Villeneuve has hidden 90 minutes of footage somewhere and won’t release it. At least that’s how many sci-fi fans will feel given the Dune maker’s recent words. As a Collider interview explains, the first version of his desert planet epic is said to have been a whole four hours long, of which he cut almost 90 minutes for the movie version. But will we ever get to see the long version?
Sci-fi director Denis Villeneuve doesn’t believe in cut scenes for Blu-rays
Apparently sci-fi fans shouldn’t get their hopes up about the first Dune release or the release of the cut scenes. Villeneuve tells Collider:
I’m a firm believer in this principle: If something doesn’t end up in the movie, it’s dead. Sometimes I can’t believe what I cut out. Afterwards, I can’t go back and put together a kind of Frankenstein and try to reanimate what’s dead. It’s too painful. If it’s dead, it’s dead, and for good reason.

With these words, any possibility of Deleted Scenes footage on future Blu-ray releases of the Dune films seems to be fading away. Hopefully Villeneuve will change his mind soon. Because the end of the sci-fi series is already in sight
When will Dune 2 be released in cinemas?
Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two will be released in cinemas on February 29, 2024. Many stars can be seen in front of the camera, including Florence Pugh (Midsommar) and Christopher Walken (7 Psychos).
