The Yellowstone finale is already a disgrace and reminiscent of The Walking Dead’s worst mistake

Reports of conflict behind the Yellowstone sequel are already revealing too much about the series finale of the western drama. Has no one learned from The Walking Dead? The US series Yellowstone is currently the talk of the town. Not only because the modern western drama starring Kevin Costner has been attracting a lot of interest in Germany since the Netflix release of the first three seasons. Above all, it is the conflicts behind the scenes that are currently giving the imminent end of the celebrated hit series a bitter aftertaste. As a fan, however, one thing annoys me in particular: unintentional spoilers

What happened? Yellowstone controversy reveals who could survive the finale

In recent weeks, news of the drama behind the scenes of the Yellowstone universe has been mounting. The Dutton saga will end prematurely this year. Whether with or without Kevin Costner, we don’t yet know. But one thing is certain: the story will be continued in a sequel series, which is also causing problems. It’s not just the involvement of the announced lead actor Matthew McConaughey that is uncertain. Three Yellowstone stars are also in a salary dispute ahead of their return.

And therein lies the problem. Yellowstone stars Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser and Luke Grimes are in talks to return in the series sequel, currently still titled 2024. As a fan, however, I don’t even want to know, because the knowledge of their (possible) involvement is enough to undermine the eagerly awaited series finale.

The finale of the zombie series The Walking Dead, for example, suffered from a similar dilemma. Before the actual end of the series after 11 seasons, US broadcaster AMC announced several spin-off series that would continue the stories of the characters Negan, Maggie and Daryl after the finale.

The unpleasant side effect: the final episodes of the parent series suddenly lost all suspense. Why should I still root for the main characters if I already know that they will survive in the end? Now this spoiler phenomenon is repeating itself with Yellowstone

I don’t want any Yellowstone spoilers: The end of the Dutton saga deserves better

According to recent reports, I can rest assured that the three main characters Beth Dutton, Rip Wheeler and Kayce Dutton are guaranteed to survive. But was that ever up for debate? Here we drift briefly into spoiler territory for season 5:

(Two Duttons who can't stand each other to death)

(Two Duttons who can’t stand each other to death)

Before Yellowstone went on a nearly two-year hiatus with the first half of season 5, episode 8 left us with a terrifying promise: Beth wants to kill her brother Jamie. And that’s not all: the sleazy politician is also ready to get his sister out of the way.

So in Finale, the question remains: who will fall victim to the brutal sibling conflict? If current plans call for Kelly Reilly to return in the next Yellowstone series, Beth is already safe. Unfortunately, things look different for Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley).

In the reports about the salary negotiations, one name is suspiciously not mentioned: Wes Bentley. The chances of his character Jamie calling it a day by the end of the series have therefore increased dramatically. Of course, there is the possibility that Jamie will simply turn his back on the Dutton Ranch and Montana at the end. But Yellowstone is still Yellowstone. And anyone who messes with the Duttons is 100 percent not granted a happy ending.
