John Wick: Chapter 4 was released last year, the fourth film in the action series in which Keanu Reeves, the titular retired hitman, is simply not allowed to rest and therefore hunts down dog killers, gangsters and ever larger secret organizations. Lance Reddick, who not only played Charon, the concierge of the New York hotel The Continental, but also a good friend of John Wick, was also a regular cast member in the films.
The Matrix star has now told People just how important the late actor and his character were for John Wick, but also for Keanu Reeves:
He had such a passion and a fire for creativity, for his craft and for his art. I got to work with him on four films over eight years and we got to know each other better during that time. […] He had such grace and was witty in his humor. I think my favorite memory is the scenes I had with him and the relationship that Charon and John Wick had.
I once said to [Lance Reddick] … well, actually, I wrote him a letter in which I said this: ‘People love John Wick because Charon loves John Wick.
Following the death of Lance Reddick, the action franchise John Wick: Chapter 5 will unfortunately have to continue without him. However, the prequel series The Continental on Amazon Prime already showed that a (younger) Charon could not be missing there either.
So Keanu Reeves is probably right when he says that Reddick laid the essential foundation for seeing the dog-loving hitman John Wick not only as a fighting machine, but also as a human being
