Pasolini’s infamous scandal shocker The 120 Days of Sodom has no longer been on the German index since the end of 2022. Now the film has also received its FSK approval for a new release.
When it comes to the toughest films of all time, The 120 Days of Sodom should not be missing from any list. Pier Paolo Pasolini’s scandalous work, also known by its original title Saló, was not allowed to be released uncut in Germany for decades. At the end of 2022, it was then announced that The 120 Days of Sodom had been removed from the index.
Now Pasolini’s timelessly shocking classic has cracked the next milestone before its imminent uncut release
The 120 Days of Sodom has received its FSK release
As Schnittberichte reports, Pasolini’s film has been re-examined by the FSK and given an 18 stamp. This means that Saló can now be released uncut without a youth rating. A corresponding release by the label Wicked Vision, which arranged for the re-examination, has not yet been announced. However, this is likely to change soon with the FSK 18 release.
Already read it? Horror masterpieces finally uncut: 11 films that have long been banned in Germany, and even a Marvel film is included
After its release in 1976, Pasolini’s work was confiscated in Germany. The uncut version was therefore not allowed to be advertised, sold or screened. Salò was also at least temporarily banned in countries such as Italy, France and Australia.
The plot of The 120 Days of Sodom is set in the fascist-occupied part of Italy, where four privileged men and women from the regime take a group of young adolescents captive in a castle. Here, the victims are subjected to various forms of humiliation, torture and other perversions.
