As reported by the Hollywood Reporter and others, Mitchell died on February 24, 2024 from complications related to his ALS disease. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s syndrome or Charcot’s disease, is an incurable degenerative nerve disease that leads to paralysis and muscle atrophy. Mitchell was diagnosed with ALS in 2018.
Many fans will remember Mitchell in particular for his various appearances in Star Trek: Discovery. In the first two seasons of the series, he played the three Klingons Kol, Kol-Sha and Tenavik. In season 3, he was seen as Aurellio. As Mitchell was already dependent on a wheelchair at this point, the character used a so-called hoverchair.

Mitchell’s other roles included the young father of the main character in Captain Marvel and Eric Green in the series Jericho. He also remained associated with the Star Trek franchise through various voice roles in Star Trek: Lower Decks.
Mitchell had been married to Susan May Pratt (10 Things I Hate About You) since 2006 and had two children with her. “He acted like a conductor when it came to getting friends together,” The Hollywood Reporter quotes from a statement from his family. “He really enjoyed inspiring a good story.
