In the first year of the coronavirus pandemic, the sci-fi disaster film Greenland starring Gerard Butler made it to cinemas and was released on streaming services such as Amazon Prime Video shortly afterwards. Despite all the circumstances, success was entirely on the side of the apocalyptic project, so we can look forward to part 2.

Although Greenland 2: Migration was announced fairly quickly after the launch of the original, there have been hardly any significant updates on the sequel in recent months. Now things are getting serious: after the start of filming was announced a few days ago, there is now a concrete date for the start of filming.
From April 22, 2024, the cameras will be rolling for Greenland 2: Migration, as Collider has exclusively learned. Filming will take place in London and Iceland. Butler returns as John Garrity, who wants to protect his family from the end of the world. Director Ric Roman Waugh, who directed the previous film, is also back at the start.

In addition, Collider writes that various castings will take place over the next few days to cast the new roles in the sequel. Greenland 2: Migration is being filmed with a budget of 65 million US dollars. That is almost twice as much as the production of the first part cost.

According to Waugh, the action of Greenland 2: Migration takes place five to seven years after the apocalypse. The devastating event was triggered by a comet hurtling directly towards Earth. After the impact, the atmosphere was poisoned and people had to flee to underground facilities in order to survive.
Waugh teased the plot to Collider last year:
[Greenland 2: Mitgration] will be about who survived and how they rebuilt the Earth after everything was completely burned down. So it’s a wonderful way to draw a line under the Garritys and show where they’re going. Would I call it a sequel? Yes, but for me it’s more like the final chapter of this story.
