The best Star Wars series comes to home cinema for the first time – and there’s a big disappointment on top

For a long time, the Star Wars and Marvel series were only available on Disney+. That’s changing. Anyone who wants to add the best series from the galaxy far, far away to their Blu-ray shelf will soon be able to do so.
Star Wars fans are famous for their passion for collecting, whether it’s shrink-wrapped AT-AT walkers or squeaky Porg dolls. In this respect, they have been facing a tough lot since the era of Disney+. New series have been released there for years, but only a few productions have appeared in physical form for the streaming service. The good news is that several will be added this year

The best Star Wars series will be released on Blu-ray and in 4K

Season 1 of Star Wars: Andor will be released on disc for the first time in the USA in April, in Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD quality. This is reported by the industry magazine Variety .

Andor premiered in 2022 and travels back in time to before the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, when professional thief Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) becomes embroiled in the resistance against the Empire

The series was created by Tony Gilroy, the creator of the Bourne series. Gilroy’s dark creation stands out from other Star Wars series with its sober tone and politically charged narrative of life in a fascist regime. This also inspired a large proportion of critics. Andor landed in first place in the list of the best series of 2022, which was voted for by the editorial teams of Moviepilot and FILMSTARTS.

3 more series from Disney+ to be released on Blu-ray

In addition to Andor, three other Disney+ series will also be released in physical form for the first time: the two Marvel productions Moon Knight and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier as well as Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The Obi-Wan series with Ewan McGregor was unfortunately one of the bigger Star Wars disappointments of recent years, as its thin plot spent too long rehashing the familiar. The series, which was also released in 2022, only has a weak average of 6 out of 10 points in the Moviepilot community. Andor, on the other hand, was rated a strong 7.9 points on average

In the USA, the new editions will be released on April 30. So far there is no confirmation that the discs will come to Germany. However, this was the case with WandaVision and The Mandalorian.

All four series come with bonus material in the US version. The Marvel series will include documentaries on the making of the series and deleted scenes, while the Star Wars series will have several featurettes
