The dragon-heavy prequel is set almost 200 years before the events of the parent series Game of Thrones. In the first season, King Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine) sits on the Iron Throne, whose progressive illness raises the explosive question of succession to the throne. Will his daughter Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock/Emma D’Arcy) become the first Queen of the Seven Kingdoms as planned? Can his brother Daemon (Matt Smith) stake his claim? Or are there other royal options to consider? At the same time, the Hand of the King (Rhys Ifans) is making plans of his own for himself and his daughter, the King’s Wife Alicent Hightower (Emily Carey/Olivia Cooke).
