Thanks to the massive success of Reacher on Amazon, actor Alan Ritchson is the talk of the town. Now he is set to return to the series that made him famous over a decade ago.
As the quick-witted Jack Reacher, Alan Ritchson dominates Amazon Prime Video’s streaming service. For the past two seasons, he has led the serial adaptation of the novel series of the same name. However, this is not the first series in his career. He previously appeared in the comedy Blue Mountain State from 2010 to 2011.
In fact, Blue Mountain State marks Ritchson’s first major leading role. He played the hunky Kevin “Thad” Devlin Castle for three seasons with a total of 39 episodes before the college comedy was canceled. Now it looks like we can look forward to an unexpected revival with the original cast
New Blue Mountain State series: Reacher star Alan Ritchson returns to his comedy roots
As Deadline reports, a sequel to Blue Mountain State is in the planning stages. Ritchson, along with his co-stars Darin Brooks and Chris Romano, are set to return to the titular university where they once enjoyed great success as football players. The Mountain Goats are reunited after more than a decade

Lionsgate Television is behind the new series. The studio has already overseen the production of the original. It is not yet clear where the new Blue Mountain State series will be released. According to Deadline, the two streaming services Netflix and Amazon are currently competing as potential homes for the Goats.

In the US, Blue Mountain State has gained new popularity thanks to Netflix. The return of the series would therefore fit perfectly into the streamer’s offering. But Amazon also has some good reasons to secure the project. Not least, it could strengthen the relationship with Ritchson beyond Reacher.
On Moviepilot, Blue Mountain State is even a tad more popular than Reacher. While the action series currently has an average rating of 7.3 out of 10 points, the football comedy remains very stable even after all these years with 7.6 out of 10 points – a remarkable figure with over 1000 ratings.
This is not the first time Blue Mountain State has returned. Back in 2016, Ritchson, Brooks and Roman returned in a supplementary feature film, which was financed via Kickstarter at the time. In Blue Mountain State: The Rise of Thadland, there’s a 90-minute encore to the comedy from Chris Romano and Eric Falconer.
