The first series from cult director Guy Ritchie starts today on Netflix. There he revisits the crime story of a 2019 movie.
If anyone can direct British gangsters, it’s Guy Ritchie. The director, who achieved cult status more than 20 years ago with fast-paced action comedies such as Jack, Queen and King and Snatch, is now trying his hand at his favorite genre in series form for Netflix. And surprisingly continues one of his own films: all eight episodes of The Gentlemen are available to stream from today.
Guy Ritchie is building a star-studded cannabis empire at Netflix
The Gentlemen revolves around young Eddie Halstead (Theo James), who inherits his father’s huge estate after he dies. Surprisingly, he discovers that he is also supposed to take over the business with drug baron Bobby Glass (Ray Winstone) and his daughter Susie (Kaya Scodelario).

Bobby Glass’ work is apparently connected to the cannabis empire of Mickey Pearson (Matthew McConaughey) from the movie. In addition to the actors listed above, the cast includes various other stars such as Giancarlo Esposito (The Mandalorian), Vinnie Jones (Snatch) and Peter Serafinowicz (Guardians of the Galaxy).
Guy Ritchie has been anything but idle in recent years since The Gentlemen, despite the coronavirus pandemic. When The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is released this year, he will have completed six films in five years. These include Cash Truck and Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant.
