One of the nastiest Netflix series ever starts in a month’s time: the trailer with body parasite escalation is not for the faint-hearted

Netflix is coming up with a nasty mix of science fiction and horror in April. In Parasyte: The Grey, all fans of disgusting body deformations à la David Cronenberg will get their money’s worth

Netflix has done quite well with anime adaptations recently. In particular, the real-life adaptation of One Piece, which was initially viewed with great skepticism, won over many fans and became a hit. Now the streaming service is following up with the next big anime adaptation, telling the story of Parasyte: The Grey.

First trailer for the Netflix series Parasyte: The Grey

Parasyte: The Grey is based on the Mange series Parasyte by Hitoshi Iwaaki. It was first published in Japan between 1988 and 1995 and has long since achieved cult status among genre fans. No wonder that the uncomfortable parasite story has been made into a movie several times. To date, there has been an anime series and two live-action films. Now Netflix is joining in with its production.

In preparation: The first volume of the manga template for Parasyte: The Grey

In the world of Parasyte: The Grey, alien parasites find their way to Earth and set off in search of suitable host bodies. One body eater has little luck in this search, as young Sun-in (Jeon So-nee) has no intention of being completely taken over by an alien.

The result is a compromise that neither party is happy with: the parasite nests in Sun-in’s arm, while she retains all her mental abilities. From now on, the two have to learn to get along. Last but not least, Sun-in can transform parts of her body into dangerous weapons thanks to the parasite.

An absolute genre expert is behind Parasyte: The Grey. In recent years, Yeon Sang-ho has been a hit with the adrenaline-fueled zombie thriller Train to Busan, which forms a trilogy with Seoul Station and Peninsula. He was most recently represented on Netflix with the mystery series Hellbound and the sci-fi action Jung_E.
