Netflix has struck again and killed off a popular series after just the first season. Lead actress Michelle Yeoh has now expressed her sadness.
Michelle Yeoh won an Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role for Everything Everywhere All at Once last year. But even that didn’t save her latest Netflix series from being canceled. Now the actress has issued a statement about the end of her series, which only started on January 4, 2024
Michelle Yeoh doesn’t understand the Netflix cancellation of The Brothers Sun
Deadline reported in early March that The Brothers Sun was canceled after one season. In Netflix’s action series full of martial arts and bitter humor, Michelle Yeoh played the mother of the titular brothers, who are suddenly hunted by dangerous killers.
In a statement on Instagram, Michelle Yeoh expressed her feelings about the abrupt end of the Netflix series:
My heart is broken … I find it so hard to understand why … Nevertheless, I am very proud of my family from The Brothers Sun and what we have presented to the world. We carry our heads held high.
Lead actor Justin Chien also thanked fans on Instagram : “It’s going to take some time to digest this news [of the Netflix cancellation] […] but it fills me with joy that the show has resonated with so many people.”
In fact, The Brothers Sun received good reviews right from the start (84% on Rotten Tomatoes ): Decider praised the series as an “addictive action comedy” and CNN said Michelle Yeoh “makes the narrative shine”. It was also well received by audiences (7.4 on Moviepilot, 7.6 on IMDb ). But none of this helped. In the end, the series did not achieve the desired streaming figures on Netflix
