Western drama like Yellowstone and time travel mystery like Dark: This is the Amazon series Outer Range with Josh Brolin, whose 2nd season now has a start date.
Josh Brolin can currently be seen on the big screen in the science fiction epic Dune: Part Two. In just a few weeks, however, you can also see him again on your screens at home. After a break of two years, the unusual time-travel western series Outer Range is returning.
The original series from Amazon mixes modern western drama à la Yellowstone with plenty of sci-fi mysteries. Prime Video has now announced the start date for season 2, which is intended to address a major point of criticism
Josh Brolin as a time-traveling cowboy: Outer Range returns on Amazon with season 2
The Amazon series Outer Range centers on the family of rancher Royal Abbott (Josh Brolin), whose family has fallen on hard times since the disappearance of daughter Rebecca and who must protect his land in Wyoming from a hostile family. However, there is also a mysterious black hole at the edge of his property that can break the boundaries of time and space.
Season 1 of Outer Range asked a lot of questions and provided few answers when it came to the interspersed time travel mysteries. The new episodes aim to rectify this and bring the sci-fi aspect more into focus. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Brolin reveals that even he was annoyed by the lack of clues and answers:
‘It makes perfect sense to me why we digressed at times. We had some people who said, ‘You just have to trust’ … and I said, ‘Yeah, bullshit. We need to know. We are the storytellers and we create the mystery.
So a few things will be different in season 2. Series creator Brian Watkins is no longer involved in the production. Charles Murray, who has over 20 years of screenwriting experience and most recently produced the Netflix series True Story, has been appointed as the new showrunner. Dune star Josh Brolin has also directed an episode of the new season himself
