Harry Potter actress Miriam Margolyes, who recently described the franchise as “for kids”, also has nothing but blunt words for a Marvel offer – and turned down half a million in pay.
Even in the acting business, where good relationships are important, there are stars who don’t mince their words. Harry Potter actress Miriam Margolyes is one of them. Hogwarts fans know her as Herbology teacher Professor Sprout, but when she’s not repotting screaming mandrakes, the British actress also likes to express her opinions loud and funny.
Harry Potter star Miriam Margolyes turned down Marvel role despite huge fee
Miriam Margolyes, now 83, has appeared in films such as Yentl, The Little Shop of Horrors and Time of Innocence, but is probably best known as the earmuff-wearing Hufflepuff housemistress Pomona Sprout from Harry Potter 2 and Harry Potter 7.2.
Over the years, however, the Englishwoman has repeatedly attracted the attention of Harry Potter fans with comments in which she explains her lack of understanding for the continuing enthusiasm for the wizarding world. She recently advised Hogwarts fans on ABC News to “finally grow up”. She has also complained that Arnold Schwarzenegger “deliberately farted in her face”. So it should come as no surprise to anyone that Miriam Margolyes also has clear views on her rejected Marvel role
On the Australian news site News.com.au, Margolyes recently promoted her book Oh Miriam!: Stories from an Extraordinary Life* and talked about the MCU project that had been brought to her:
They contacted me and said, ‘We’re doing a story about witches’. And I thought, ‘Oh God, not witches again. I’ve already done that in Harry Potter. [I don’t like America and I didn’t want to go to Georgia for four months. So I just said, ‘I want a million pounds [1.1 million euros]’ and they said ‘you can have half a million’. And I said, ‘No, I don’t want to do that’ and then it was over.
The Professor Sprout actress turned down this Marvel role
The project the Harry Potter actress is talking about is most likely Marvel’s WandaVision spin-off Agatha: Darkhold Diaries. Miriam Margolyes laughs belatedly at her own “greed”.
At least we can already answer the question of whether the British actress is aiming for another appearance in the Harry Potter series with her statements
