Seven years have passed since the last Alien film was released in cinemas. It is now clear that the prequel series initiated by Ridley Scott with Prometheus – Dark Signs has no future. It was over after Alien: Covenant. We probably won’t be seeing Michael Fassbender’s android David in the Alien universe again.
Instead, a small reboot awaits us this year with Alien: Romulus. Although the film was originally billed as a stand-alone space adventure, it now turns out that the plot is set between the first two parts. Alien: Romulus is effectively an interquel, as the Hollywood Reporter writes.

Alien: Romulus was directed by Fede Álvarez, who has caused quite a stir in recent years with several horror films. Firstly, there is the extremely dark Evil Dead from 2013, which features an unparalleled rain of blood. Álvarez also delivered the hard-hitting Don’t Breathe in 2016.
Cailee Spaeny takes on the lead role in Alien: Romulus, following in the footsteps of actresses such as Sigourney Weaver (Alien) and Noomi Rapace (Prometheus). Spaeny is best known for her outstanding performance in Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla, which was released in cinemas last year and is currently streaming on Mubi.
