Twelve years after the end of the fantasy series Twilight, Kristen Stewart defends her Bella – even as she explains why she personally would have broken up with Edward immediately.
In the wake of the new Twilight series, which adapts Stephenie Meyer’s fantasy books once again, interest in the vampire romance has been rekindled. During the promotion of her new film Love Lies Bleeding, Bella actress Kristen Stewart also had to face the question of how she rates Bella in retrospect – and had a refreshing answer at the ready.
Fantasy misstep? Kristen Stewart blames vampire Edward for Twilight
Twilight – Until Dawn and the four fantasy sequels brought Kristen Stewart worldwide fame. As teenager Bella Swan, who falls in love with vampire Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) at her school, she is still unforgotten today, as her interview with the podcast Not Skinny But Not Fat (at minute 20) shows. Here, Kristen Stewart defended her character Bella against the suggestive question of not having been lovable or too desperate, and also made a personal observation:

Edward] tried to control whether [Bella] made a decision for herself or not. I would have broken up with him immediately. If I’d said ‘Hey, I want to try this’ and he’d replied ‘No, it’s just for me’, I would have replied: ‘Well, then THIS is just for me too: my whole life. Without you.’
Kristen Stewart sees Bella as a human who wanted to make the decision to become a vampire and was denied that personal choice by Edward. Even if she can understand his protective instinct, it is not his place to make these life choices for the young woman. Even in Twilight 4: Breaking Dawn, Edward’s final transformation takes place primarily to prevent Bella’s death in the course of her pregnancy
