Although Anthony Mackie will soon be seen as the new Captain America, the Marvel star believes it will take a fight with Keanu Reeves to get through to his kids.
Anthony Mackie has already impressively proven that he is a tough action star in the Captain America series and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. In next year’s Captain America 4: Brave New World, the actor will even be seen as the titular hero, replacing Chris Evans in the lead role.
Apparently, however, this is not enough for Mackie to look like a cool dad in front of his children. As the actor explained in an interview with Total Film during the press tour for season 2 of Twisted Metal, he would like to compete against John Wick star Keanu Reeves for precisely this reason.
Anthony Mackie wants to be in John Wick 5 – to fight Keanu Reeves
The Marvel star said he was confident he would look good fighting Keanu Reeves in a new John Wick movie, as he has already taken on professional wrestlers in his current series hit Twisted Metal:
I’m trying to get Keanu Reeves to consider me for John Wick 5 or [John Wick 6]. I think that will make me a cool dad if I had a five-minute fight scene with Keanu Reeves. I’ll put up a tough fight! [Pro wrestler] Samoa Joe punched me in the face in [Twisted Metal] and I didn’t fall over!
In fact, there are a few loose connections between Mackie and the John Wick series. John Wick creator Derek Kolstad also co-wrote The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, while directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch worked on Captain America: Civil War in the Second Unit. Whether that’s enough to apply for John Wick: Chapter 5 remains to be seen for now.
What’s next for the John Wick series?
John Wick 5 is currently in the early stages of development. First, however, we can expect to see the spin-off Ballerina in cinemas, which was recently postponed by a year due to extensive reshoots of the action scenes.
