The unconventional sci-fi tale Poor Things with Emma Stone triumphed at the 2024 Oscars. Now her next collaboration with director Yorgos Lanthimos has already been announced
After Oppenheimer, Poor Things went home with four awards this year as the second big winner of the 2024 Oscars. Emma Stone in particular received a lot of attention for her second award for Best Actress in a Leading Role. The first time she picked up the trophy was for the musical La La Land.
Less than a month after the Oscars, the dream team behind Poor Things is back with a new film. Director Yorgos Lanthimos, who first worked with Stone on The Favourite, has long since completed his new work. It was first called And. Now it bears the title Kinds of Kindness.
After Emma Stone’s Oscar triumph: First trailer for Kinds of Kindness by Yorgos Lanthimos
In contrast to Poor Things and The Favourite, Kinds of Kindness is not a movie that tells a big, coherent story. Instead, we’re dealing with an anthology film made up of three episodes. Stone and the rest of the cast take on different roles in each episode.
And this cast is definitely impressive. In addition to Stone, two stars who were in Poor Things return, namely Margaret Qualley and Willem Dafoe. They are joined by Hunter Schafer, Hong Chau, Mamoudou Athie, Jesse Plemons and Joe Alwyn, who made his Lanthimos debut in The Favourite.
A look behind the camera reveals even more familiar names. For Kinds of Kindness, Lanthimos simply brought his Poor Things team together again, from editor Yorgos Mavropsaridis to cinematographer Robbie Ryan and composer Jerskin Fendrix. The film was shot in New Orleans from October to December 2022.
