Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter is in the starting blocks with his new Netflix series The Abandons. An old acquaintance from the biker series joins the cast of the potential Yellowstone competition.
With Yellowstone, the western genre currently has a strong representative in the series landscape. So it’s no wonder that Netflix wants to take a leaf out of its book and is now also planning its own series in the popular genre. The western epic The Abandons is waiting in the wings for the streamer, with Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter as the creative force behind it.
While Sutter has already been able to recruit a well-known cast including Game of Thrones star Lena Headey and X-Files icon Gillian Anderson for the project, there has now been a further addition to the cast, which should please fans of the biker series in particular.
Ryan Hurst joins the cast of future Yellowstone competitor The Abandons
As Variety reports, Sutter is bringing back a Sons of Anarchy alum, Ryan Hurst, for the Netflix series. Hurst slipped into the role of Opie in the biker drama and played his way into the hearts of numerous fans over the course of 54 episodes. The actor’s filmography includes The Walking Dead and Bates Motel.

In addition to Hurst, Michael Greyeyes (Blood Quantum), Michiel Huisman (Rebel Moon) and Toby Hemingway (The Crossing) have also been added to the cast list of The Abandons. The four will join Headey and Anderson as well as Nick Robinson (Damsel), Lucas Till (MacGyver), Clayton Cardenas (Mayans M.C.) and many more stars in front of the camera
The Abandons: Complex western family saga in Oregon in the 1850s
The Netflix series revolves around various families pursuing their Manifest Destiny in 1850s Oregon, where they are about to be ousted by wealthy powers. As abandoned souls, they band together as one big family and declare bloody war on their opposing forces.

Lena Headey will take on the role of matriarch Fiona, who was unable to bear children of her own and instead took in four orphans. Gillian Anderson, on the other hand, will play the matriarch Constance Van Ness, who inherited her husband’s mining fortune and has doubled it since his death. It is not yet known what role Ryan Hurst will have in the series
The first season of The Abandons will feature ten episodes. It is not yet known when the series will be available to stream on Netflix.
